Zainab AlShibani is a Qatari artist based in Doha. Her practice explores rituals, time, gender, and language through meditation, Khaleeji folklore, and Arab mythology. She graduated from VCUarts Qatar in 2021 with a BFA in Graphic Design, magna cum laude, and received the AEB Excellence Award. Her interest in medieval manuscripts and Arabic script informs an exploration of mysticism, representation, and the relationship between the body and letterforms. Working across lettering, illustration, sculpture, and painting, she uses contrasts of black and white to investigate symbolic relationships between shapes and motifs. Her residencies include the International Studio & Curatorial Programme in New York, Doha’s Fire Station, and Akoje. Her work has been shown in Doha, New York, and Paris. In 2023, she co-founded El Screen Studio, a Doha screen-printing lab supporting collaboration among artists and designers. Her installations extend these interests into movement, performance, and representations of women and the body.
زينب الشيباني فنانة قطرية تقيم في الدوحة. تستكشف الطقوس والزمن والنوع الاجتماعي واللغة عبر التأمل والموروث الشعبي الخليجي والأساطير العربية. تخرّجت عام ٢٠٢١ من جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث للفنون في قطر ببكالوريوس الفنون الجميلة في التصميم الجرافيكي بمرتبة شرف عالية، وحصلت على جائزة إيه إي بي للتميّز. ينعكس اهتمامها بمخطوطات العصور الوسطى والكتابة العربية في بحثها في التصوّف وطرائق التمثيل البصري والعلاقة بين الجسد والحرف. تعمل في الخط والرسم التوضيحي والنحت والرسم التشكيلي، وتستخدم تباين الأسود والأبيض لاستكشاف العلاقات الرمزية بين الأشكال والزخارف. شاركت في إقامات فنية بالبرنامج الدولي لاستوديوهات الفنانين والقيّمين في نيويورك، ومطافئ الدوحة، وأكوجي، وعُرضت أعمالها في الدوحة ونيويورك وباريس. وفي عام ٢٠٢٣، شاركت في تأسيس استوديو «إل سكرين»، وهو مختبر للطباعة بالشاشة الحريرية في الدوحة يدعم التعاون بين الفنانين والمصمّمين. وتتناول أعمالها التركيبية هذه الأسئلة من خلال الحركة والأداء وطرائق تصوير النساء والجسد.
