Abdul Rahman Anwar and Shawky Abdalla are multidisciplinary designers and researchers whose practices connect material experimentation, spirituality, craft, and contemporary design research. Together, they explore how materials embody memory, ritual, devotion, and meaning, approaching design as a material and contemplative practice. Anwar holds a BFA in Graphic Design from VCUarts Qatar and an MA in Library and Information Studies from University College London. As Coordinator of the VCUarts Qatar Materials Library, he investigates materiality as a catalyst for creativity and innovation. His curatorial projects include Modern Prayer Rug, Soujud, and Beneath the Rubble, Dreams Persist. Abdalla holds a BFA in Interior Design and an MFA from VCUarts Qatar. Working across research and artifact-making, he explores spirituality, memory, sensory experience, and contemporary ways of knowing. Drawing on Islamic philosophy, poetry, ritual, and material culture, his practice treats design as reflection and dialogue. Their collaboration connects matter and meaning, form and remembrance.
عبد الرحمن أنور وشوقي عبد الله مصمّمان وباحثان متعدّدا التخصصات، يجمع عملهما بين التجريب بالخامات والروحانيات والحِرف والبحث في التصميم المعاصر. يبحثان معاً في الصلة بين الخامات والذاكرة والطقوس والتعبّد، وفي المعاني التي تتجسّد في الأشياء، ويجمعان في التصميم بين التعامل مع المادة والتأمل. يحمل أنور بكالوريوس الفنون الجميلة في التصميم الجرافيكي من جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث للفنون في قطر، وماجستير دراسات المكتبات والمعلومات من كلية لندن الجامعية. وبصفته منسّق مكتبة المواد في الجامعة، يبحث في إمكانات الخامات بوصفها محفّزاً للإبداع والابتكار. من مشاريعه في تنظيم المعارض «سجادة الصلاة المعاصرة» و«سجود» و«تحت الركام، تستمر الأحلام». ويحمل عبد الله بكالوريوس الفنون الجميلة في التصميم الداخلي وماجستير الفنون الجميلة من الجامعة نفسها. يجمع بين البحث وصنع الأعمال لاستكشاف الروحانية والذاكرة والتجربة الحسية وسبل اكتساب المعرفة في العالم المعاصر، مستلهماً الفلسفة الإسلامية والشعر والطقوس والثقافة المادية. وفي تعاونهما، يصبح التصميم وسيلة للتأمل في العلاقة بين المادة والمعنى، وبين الشكل واستحضار الذاكرة.
